Biography

< 1996

Anouk was born on the 8th of april 1975. She was a sweet little child, but when she got older she was just a wild girl, and her mom could not handle her anymore. She had to go to a house for difficult children. When she was 19 years old, wanted to go to the “concervatorium” ( a school for people who are very good with music), She got in, but after two years she quits. She doesn’t like all the music theory, .. and the most of the students there. Then in 1996 she meets Barry Hay from the dutch rockband “Golden earing” when she plays at a small festival called “Zeehelderkwartier festival”, Barry is so impressed that he decides to help Anouk in to the world of music. He see’s Anouk as a real good preformer, and thinks she can make it. He helps her find a producer, and writes some somgs for Anouk’s first album “Together Alone”. Anouk’s first single, mood indigo, comes out. The number doesn’t do much in the charts.

1997

Nobody’s wife, Anouk’s second single is released on September the 5th. The number comes in like a bomb! It’s in the charts for a long long time and even reaches the golden status. Anouk’s first album together alone comes out and was sold 40.000 times, wich is great for a first album. Nobody’s wife wasn’t even going to come on the Together Alone album, but with this succes Anouk has to put the single on her release album.. Luckily.

1998

Anouk won two awards from Dutch music channel TMF (The Music Factory) in addition to an Edison award. During the summer, she played at various festivals.. She plays on a festival on the Dutch Queensday and gets so many people that the police stopped the show because it got to dangerous with so many people. She plays on the big Dutch “Pinkpop” festival but she get’s eggs trown at her from the audience. Anouk ripped of her t-shirt with eggs on it and continued the show. One to Zero for Anouk. Together Alone is sold many times in other counties; so much that the album becomes gold in Scandinavia and even platinum in Italy. There came to more singles from the album; It’s so hard and Sacrifice, wich also go great on the charts. Anouk is then the second best selling artist in Holland. Time for a new album!

1999

Anouk’s second album is called Urban Solitude, this album is fully written by Anouk and very different from her first album. Anouk wins a lot of prices for this album and the singles are once again very succesfull: R.u. kiddin’ me, Don’t, Michel and the dark.

2000

Anouk gets sponsored by Pepsi and she makes the promotional single Break Down The Wall uit. Pepsi sponsors the Anouk acoustic tour wich will be very succesfull. Anouk is booked for all the big Dutch and Belgian festivals (Pinkpop, Parkpop, Torhout/Werchter en Bospop) but things go bad there and Anouk gets a burn-out. She cancelles all her shows and festivals and spends the rest of the summer in bed.

2001

A new single is released (Don’t) and Anouk starts her semi Acoustic tour. She gets an Edison Awards for” Michel” and Lost tracks is being released. Anouk fires her complete band (a few weeks before her show on Pinkpop) and she makes a new band with Hans Eijkenaar (drums), Silvano Matadin (base), René van Barneveld (guitar), Robin van Vliet (keys) and Jack Pisters (Guitar).

2002

Anouk finally has won the popprijs, earned all a long and finally gotten now. The jury praises her versatility, radiation, effort and her concerts.
Anouk gives birth to a son that gets the name Benjahmin Kingsley. In October, the first single of Anouk’s 4th studio album “Graduated fool”, is released: Everything comes out. After “Everything” there are 3 more singles from the album: “hail” and “I live for you”. All numbers have been written by Anouk together with het partner in writing Bart van Veen, except for Bigger Side, wich is written by Gert Bettens of K’s Choice.

2003

The graduated fool tour started, the concerts are all super and the tour then needs to be expanded because of great succes. Anouk does finally 17 concerts of which 2 in Belgium. Anouk plays also on large festivals as pinkpop and she even plays for a sold out San Siro stadium (the AC Milan stadium) as support act. Anouk records a song with Junkie XL; ‘Between these walls’. At the very last moment of 2003, Anouk gets yet a second child, her second son Elijah-Jeremiah is born. A little brother for Benjahmin!

2004

Anouk got married! On march 16th she married her boyfriend Remon Stotijn. From now on, Anouk Stotijn Teeuwe!

Anouk has brought out a dvd on 5 January. The dvd contains a lot of festival registrations and much extras. The dvd is called Close-Up and there is also an album comming with that; Update. With some songs from Graduated fool in acoutisc versions and some live songs.

Anouk ends 2004 with a fantastic new album Hotel New York. The album goes great and is Platinum in 3 weeks! Naturally came the album also on number 1 within in the cd TOP100! The album is meanwhile three turn platinum (210,000 albums sold), and girl the most successful single of a solo artist ever. Anouk start a semi-acoustic tour (the easy going tour) along the small halls in the Netherlands with Postmen as support act.

To underline Anouk’s brilliant live status, the live dvd Anouk Is Alive is being released in 2006. It’s a registration of her sold out concerts in Ahoy’ Rotterdam and The Sportpaleis in Antwerp of November and December 2005. Anouk Is Alive reaches the number 1 position within in the dvd top-30 and reaches as the golden status with 40,000 sold specimens in 2 weeks. Anouk drags also her second European MTV Award in, a humo award, and an Edison award.

2005

Anouk wins a very special award on the 3FM Awards this year, she wins the award for the song most played on the radio! Girl was most played this year and Anouk wins. Hotel New York reaches the platinum status (50.000 sold albums) in Belgium. Anouk wins many many awards this year. In june Anouk gives birth to her third baby: it’s a girl called Phoenix Ray. Anouk sings on her husbands album (Postman-Green) and they bring out a single together called downhill.

2006

Op 3, 4, 16 en 17 december staat Anouk voor een uitverkocht Ahoy met de Hotel New York tour. Ook het Sportpaleis in Antwerpen word nog moeiteloos 2x uitverkocht! Op 24 februari krijgt Anouk tijdens het Harpengala in Bussum een Gouden Harp uitgereikt. Op 6 maart krijgt de zangeres in de Heineken Music Hall een Edison Music Award uitgereikt in de categorie beste zangeres nationaal. Anouk krijgt in april een TMF Award in de categorie Beste Zangeres Nationaal.

2007

In de zomer van 2007 nam Anouk haar vijfde studioalbum op met Amerikaanse muzikanten en de producer Glen Ballard. Dit album komt in November van dit jaar uit en is inmiddels alweer dubbel platina. Dit album lijd echter wel tot een breuk met Anouk’s begeleidingsband. Ze besluit de samenwerking stop te zetten en nieuwe muzikanten te zoeken. De nieuwe band bestaat nu uit Angelo de Rijke (gitaar), Memru Renjaan (gitaar), Boaz Kroon (bas), Oscar Kraal (drums) en Thijs Boontjes (toetsen). Good God is de eerste single van Who’s your momma, deze ging op 15 oktober in première op 3FM en werd 3FM Megahit en TMF Superclip in Nederland en België.

2008

Anouk start de Who’s your momma tour, maar niet voordat ze 3 geweldige try outs geeft! De who’s your momma tour bestaat uit 2 show’s in het Antwerpse Sportpaleis en 2 shows in het Gelredome te Arnhem. De 2e en 3e single van het album zijn inmiddels ook uitgebracht, en Modern world is op dit moment bezig de hitlijsten te bestijgen. Hopelijk naar nummer 1 !
